STEM Week was linked by the theme of ‘Connections’ this year. In response to this we gave the children lots of opportunities to take part in activities showing links between things. We investigated crime scenes and found the culprit using fingerprints, we worked out which unlabelled tins had the dog food in, linked unusual smells to our emotions and built giant structures from connecting materials.
We also had the opportunity to meet a geneticist from the Newcastle Centre for Life, who gave us an insight into our connections to our parents. We found out all about our DNA, chromosomes and some interesting syndromes- like ‘achoo syndrome’ (sneezing when you look at the sun)! Who knew you inherited this from your parents?
